A Charmed Week 2/1-2/7

In My Life

This week has taken a bit of a toll on me.  We took our cats to the vet for an overdue check up and both of them are overweight! I blame the boyfriend who feeds them whenever they sit by their bowls and look at him (even when they still have food IN the bowl).  Zoe is a really small cat so even at 9 pounds she is overweight.  Harper on the other hand is 16 lbs! I was wondering why it hurt so much when she would use my chest as a springboard.  She needs to lose 2 pounds.  And now we have to buy special diet food.  AND Zoe has to have anesthesia and have her teeth cleaned on Tuesday.

I’m also taking an online class that is really stressing me out.  It’s a Diversity in Children’s Lit class and I’m just taking it for fun (I could get continuing education but I don’t even need it at the moment), but I’ve discovered that online classes are the worst.  Way more stressful than classes in person.  Even with my immense fear of public speaking I’d still rather sit in a classroom.  It’s not even graded, but I have constant knots in my stomach over it.

And my little sister saw Hamilton last night and I’m insanely jealous.

But I did get to spend the day with one of my really good friends yesterday, so that was really nice.  And it’s Superbowl Sunday which means FOOTBALL IS OVER!!!!  And I get to see my best friends this week and spend the weekend in Florida so, life isn’t really too bad when you think about it.

In My Life

Every time I come to write a weekly update, I want to include a little bit of news about my life.  And every week I am reminded that I am pretty boring.  The spending freeze has hit a few hiccups, but the book buying ban is going strong.

One of my good friend’s is going through some crazy relationship drama, so my main group of friends (Who all live in NY while I’m 4 hours away in Baltimore) decided to have a girls weekend Valentines Day Weekend.  And WE’RE GOING TO FLORIDA! Just from 2/11-2/15 (Yay for President’s day long weekends!).

My 86 year old grandfather has a house in Florida that he never goes to (because he is still working!!) so the Aunts and grandkids get to use it a lot for free.  It’s basically a retirement community but it’s Boca Raton and it’s free so you won’t hear me complaining! My BFF also wants to take the 3 hour drive up to Orlando to go to Harry Potter World for the Day.  I tried to convince her that it would be better to try and do all 4 Disney parks in one day, but the other two have never been to HP world.  So I’m sad about not being able to go to Disney, but I guess I am outnumbered.

Have I mentioned my obsession with Disney World?  I plan fake vacations to Disney about every 2 weeks and have seriously researched my next trip, which will take place in May of 2017 after my BF graduates Law school.  He doesn’t want to go.  But he doesn’t really get a choice.

I’m not really sure.  I don’t really have anything planned. Ususally I have at least a few posts scheduled, but at this moment I don’t think I do.  I’ve been off my reading game, but hopefully I will figure something out.

One of my goals for this year was to expand beyond the YA age group, so as you can see by the books I took out of the library, I’m trying.

I have a few ideas about monthly features for different genres, but it probably won’t happen for awhile.

Snowed In for the Weekend–A Charmed Week

Screen Shot 2016-01-25 at 11.29.16 AM

Screen Shot 2016-01-25 at 5.42.09 PM.pngLast week it was flurrying, this week we are buried under two feet of snow! It is now the #1 storm on record for Baltimore and I’m HOPING I will have a snow day tomorrow! The DMV doesn’t have the best record when it comes to cleaning up snow.  By now, I’ve been stuck in my apartment since Friday afternoon, although I did venture out for a walk to the liquor store last night, that was THANKFULLY open.

After initially watching 4 hours of The Wire and finishing the 2nd season, I started my own little Snowed In Read-a-Thon.  So far I’ve read 4 books since Friday afternoon and I will be posting one post with a bunch of mini reviews sometime this week! My goal was to read 6, so I only have 2 more to read today, but if I’m stuck here again tomorrow, I might just try and push it to 8!

Last Week in My Life

A Month of No Spending

It actually isn’t really that hard. It really helps to have a boyfriend who is willing to pay for things that he wants to do.  Last Sunday he wanted to go out to breakfast and then to a bar later in the day to watch the Washington Redskins and he understood that he would have to pay for me in order for me to go.  Usually we split things or take turns paying.

I’ve realized how much I actually spend on groceries, and it’s a lot.  And a lot of the food ends up going to waste! But I’ve made some meal plans based on food we already have in the fridge/pantry so I hope to get better at not wasting food.

The boyfriend is back in law school.  I love him, but I am so happy he will be out of the apartment a few hours every day.  Now I will definitely have more time to read without ESPN distracting me from the other room.

It was a pretty boring week for me.  I have a 4 day weekend because tomorrow is MLK Day and the library is closed.  I spent my Friday watching 5 hours of The Wire.  The boyfriend and I watched all 5 seasons about 4 years ago when I was taking a class on it in undergrad, and now he is taking a class on it in law school, so we are watching it again.  And now we live in Baltimore so we are constantly looking things up to see where they happened in relation to where we live.  It’s even harder to watch the second time around because I know when everyone dies and I dread it, even when it’s 3 seasons away.  Except that one death. I’m ok with that one.

In My Life

I’ve decided to try to go a month without spending money on things other than groceries.  And so far it’s been pretty good! I’ve been able to cheat a bit because my boyfriend is willing to pay for things when he wants to do something but I say I can’t.  I’m also in the first month of my 6 month book buying ban.  So far so good!

Weekly Review

Screen Shot 2016-01-25 at 11.29.16 AM

5 days until Christmas!! I still have a ton of shopping to do, because as usual I’ve left it to the last minute.  This week was pretty uneventful.  My boyfriend is on break from law school and I feel like he is always just…there.  I love him, and I love spending time with him, I’m just used to him not being in the house for 3+ hours everyday and now I have to readjust!

It was a lot more exciting on the blog this week than in my real life.

A Charmed Week 12/7-12/13

Screen Shot 2016-01-25 at 11.29.16 AM

I’m in a reading slump.  It started off by not just reading for 2 days and now nothing I read is catching my attention.  I tried to start Worlds of Ink and Shadow yesterday but the formatting was all weird on my e-ARC so I decided to move on.  And then I started Zero Day by Jan Gangsei which I’m not really that into and Teen Frankenstein by Chandler Baker which might work better if I had read Frankenstein first.

I haven’t decided if I am going to DNF them or put them aside for now but I do think I need to just stop forcing it.

This week overall was good though!  It was low-key because the boyfriend had his finals but in celebration on Friday we took the hour drive up to Delaware to go to the mall to go Christmas shopping—no sales tax!

I did something a little different. I added a bit about my personal life at the bottom on this post.  I’ve tried to keep it separated, but maybe just in the weekly reviews so maybe it will help you guys get to know me better.

Just for Fun:

So this week started off on my birthday!! I turned 26 😦  I wasn’t able to go out to dinner or anything because my boyfriend has law school finals this week 😦 BUT I did get some awesome presents I wanted, and I got to spend time with my family and friends the week before so that’s all I really wanted.

we have a lot of November birthdays in my family.  And I get my own ice cream cake because it’s the only kind I like.

I put up my Christmas tree!  It’s a fake one this year (Because a bug crawled on me last year so I was done with it).  I haven’t gone to the storage unit to get the rest of the ornaments yet, but it still looks pretty.

IMG_3975-1

Ignore the mess of books behind it.  It’s a work in progress.

And on Friday night the Boyfriend and I went to the Washington Wizards game!  I’m not a huge sports fan, but I really do love actually going to Basketball, Hockey and Baseball games!IMG_4019-1

A Charmed Week

I haven’t been very active this week because of Thanksgiving.  But now I’m back in Baltimore after spending a wonderful few days with my family and friends.

There was no post yesterday because I sat in a car for 5 hours due to crazy traffic. (I also didn’t read anything for 4 days…and that’s crazy!) It feels so weird not to have posted when I’ve tried to have something everyday so far! But it’s Sunday and that means it’s time for the Weekly Wrap Up!

I told you shared 10 Books I’m Thankful For in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday and Passenger, by Alexandra Bracken, a book  I’m eagerly anticipating for Waiting on Wednesday.

I discussed some recent DNF victims and participated in the Bookish Alphabet Tag.

And like always, my TBR got longer.

I hope everyone had a wonderful week!  I have a lot planned for this coming week, starting with a review tomorrow, ON MY BIRTHDAY!
